About Cyclotherapy

I am Dr Peter Hudson, a Chartered Psychologist with more than 25 years experience in clinical practice helping people overcome anxieties and mental “blocks”.  I am also a competitive cyclist, competing as a veteran road racer in the UK and France. I set up Cyclotherapy over a decade ago to combine my professional experience as a psychologist with my passion for cycling.

As a rider and racer myself, I understand the challenges and pressures that go alongside professional level racing and I’ve witnessed it first hand with my clients. This puts me in the best position to help elite cyclists and teams overcome psychological blocks to effective performance. I work with professional and elite riders on the mental aspects of training, preparation and race performance to enable them to reach their potential.

I’ve worked with cyclists for more than ten years and my clients include UCI Continental teams, such as UCI Women’s Continental Team, CAMS-Tifosi, the GB Transplant Cycling Team, as well as UK national champions and record holders. This work has resulted in successful outcomes for riders including:

  • Reduction in pre-competition anxiety
  • Improvements in focus and reduction in negative thinking
  • Reduction in situational anxiety in descending, group and bunch riding
  • Recovery from a flying phobia to enable the rider to travel to international races to compete

At Cyclotherapy, I offer a unique combination of highly developed clinical skills, cutting edge psychological knowledge and an awareness of the specific psychological demands of bike racing at the highest level. Working together, I can help you unlock your true potential.

“I have worked with a few psychologists in the past but Peter has definitely made the biggest positive impact on my mental health. He really helped me understand the way our minds work and taught me simple but effective ways to work through bad days, which are now far less frequent. More importantly I felt that Peter really cared about helping me, and he made me feel like I was never wasting his time, no matter how small my problem was.”
